8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.            Session I. Understanding the Changing Work Landscape
In an environment of continual change, global competition and technological innovation, the “future of work” is no longer a pipedream. Today, traditional notions of what work is and how organizations best utilize talent are undergoing significant changes. Some of the societal forces precipitating this transition include the accelerating evolution of AI and robotics, demographic shifts, and increasing consumer empowerment.

  • What other trends and factors are contributing to this new work landscape?
  • What are the key features and advantages of this emerging work environment?
  • What are the concerns emanating from these new developments?

9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.            Session II. The Crisis and Opportunity for Human Talent
Within this new landscape, a crisis in talent is emerging. Job performance, recruitment and retention of talent are in flux. Traditional jobs are declining, expertise in one skillset is no longer sufficient, and organizations are grappling with balancing machine and human collaboration. In this session we will discuss how changes in the work landscape pertain to human talent.

  • What are essential human talent skills and how can technology augment them?
  • How can organizations help nurture a “learning disposition” among their employees? Specifically, how can firms encourage the exercise of curiosity, imagination, creativity, and social and emotional intelligence to create new value? Is there a new framework for lifelong learning and reinvention? If so, what does this require of businesses, governments, educational institutions, and individuals?
  • What are some innovative ways organizations can source and integrate diverse talent across networks?

11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.            Session III. Leadership and Public Policy: A Conversation with Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper
Governor Hickenlooper will start this session with initial remarks followed by dialogue with Roundtable participants. The discussion will focus on leadership and public policy with regard to the future of work. What are the challenges to Colorado to attract and retain talent? What does the Governor see as the greatest challenges to firms going forward?

1:30 p.m. – 2:45 p.m.            Session IV. Case Studies: Navigating New Work Structures
This session will examine organizations proactively navigating the changing work environment. Participants will discuss examples of companies trying to embody the core principles of operational innovation, continuous learning and improvement, employee empowerment, and productive collaboration between humans and machines.

  • Are there other examples of companies successfully navigating the new work landscape?
  • What replicable strategies can we glean from the experiences of these case studies? Are there structural elements that are necessary or useful in the pursuit of these strategies?
  • How might key principles be applied to organizations within other industries?

Saturday, August 11

8:45 a.m. – 10:15 a.m.            Session V. Refining Strategies for the New Work Environment
Given the challenges and opportunities discussed previously, this session will seek to form a strategic framework for navigating the future of work.

  • What do organizations need to do to create meaningful jobs and careers?
  • How might organizational structures change to accommodate the new realities of work, and what key characteristics are necessary to achieve success?
  • And finally, what are the implications these changes have on individuals, businesses and public institutions?

10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.            Session VI. Leadership within the Organization
To conclude, Roundtable participants will address leadership within organizations. What management approaches are necessary for building a powerful learning culture? How can leaders incentivize their employees within a creative working environment to create new value to the firm and to themselves? What can the leader do to make the right decisions now to prepare the organization and its talent for the days ahead? What obligations do leaders have beyond their immediate organizations to address issues relating to the future of work?
