Lucas Dixon - Participant

Lucas is a scientist working in Google Research and Area 120, where he is currently working on understanding the long term dynamics of recommendation systems, and developing new ways to interact with them.

Previously, he was Chief Scientist at Jigsaw where he founded engineering and research efforts, and before that he worked on Google Search. Lucas worked on an unusually diverse range of topics from security, to formal logics, to machine intelligence, to data visualization. He helped build uProxy/Outline, Project Shield, DigitalAttackMap, Syria Defection Tracker, and unfiltered.news. Lucas also led Jigsaw's early scientific research on DisInformation and led the development of Conversation AI and the Perspective API.

Before Google/Jigsaw, Lucas completed his PhD and then worked at the University of Edinburgh on the automation of mathematical reasoning, graphical languages for quantum information. He also helped run a non-profit working towards more rational and informed discussion and decision making. You'll also sometimes find Lucas instructing martial arts in Paris when he's not dancing Argentine tango.
