The Exponential Shift: Rethinking Organizational Business Models - Agenda

Thursday, July 14, 2016

8:45 a.m. – 10:15 a.m.            Session I. Corporate Navigation of the Whitewater Environment
The Roundtable begins by looking at issues an organization faces in an environment of continual change, rapid fluctuations, global competition, and increased use of hard and soft machines. How does it maintain high performance and increasing returns?  Is there a new organizing principle for a firm’s effective performance in the future: e.g., to achieve scalable efficiency, scalable learning, or some other aim?

10:45 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.          Session II. Governmental Organizations in the New Environment
Governmental organizations are mission driven, but cannot conveniently measure their success.  There are no profits, and meeting one’s budget does not begin to indicate how effective the organization is.  How can a governmental organization better understand how to navigate the increasingly complex environment in which it operates?  How do these measurements differ from the corporation?  Where does a non-profit fit in this spectrum?

2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.             Session III. Designing Organizations for Exponential Performance
Given the conclusions and distinctions of the morning sessions, how can organizations redesign their strategies and operations to become exponential performers?  What functions must they perform at the edge of the organization versus the core?  What other major actions should an organization take to prepare for the whitewater world in which they now find themselves?

8:45 a.m. – 10:15 a.m.            Session IV. Refining the Exponential Organization
This session will delve into specifics in the redefining of the organization and/or the redesigning of its operations to perform better in the years ahead.  Drawing from corporate examples, the participants will explore how governmental organizations can perform better, and vice versa, corporations will learn from examples of governmental innovation in the field of scalable learning.

10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.          Session V. Leading the New Organization
To conclude, Roundtable participants will address leadership issues as organizations deal with redesigning their practices.  What can the leader do to make the right decisions now to prepare the organization and its talent for the days ahead?
