Strategies for Success and Action Steps

To advance progress toward a renewed vision for public libraries, the Aspen Institute Dialogue on Public Libraries recommends advancing four Strategies for Success and 15 action steps addressed to each of the following stakeholder groups: library leaders, policymakers and the community. These lists of actions are not intended to be comprehensive. Rather, they are recommendations that have surfaced throughout the Dialogue’s deliberations and consultations and offer a starting point for change. They are necessarily general, as the unique people, needs, resources, environments and character of each community will have to guide specific community goals and action plans. This report itself is offered as a beginning—not an end—to a broader national dialogue on the future of the public library.
